Project Description

From the San Leandro Georgia Pacific paper mill in (you guessed it) San Leandro, CA we have acquired a large number of reclaimed Douglas fir old growth beam stock. Hand selected for it’s growth ring density, this lumber could be milled to make exquisite clear vertical grain trim or flooring, door and window stock, or left alone to make incredible exposed beams. Available in 6×6, 6×12 and 4×8.

The building, located at 2000 Marina Way, is currently being redeveloped into high end industrial space.

Regarded for it’s strength and interior durability, Douglas Fir lumber has always been a preferred option for builders and architects for structural members. It has high resistance to earth quakes, wind and other natural occurrences. Old growth vertical grain douglas fir can make exceptional flooring or cabinets and if often used in window casing and doors panels. Douglas fir is also a great choice for exposed beams due to it’s strength and beautiful color (usually yellow or light brown with hints of red). Douglas fir lumber is fairly easy to machine and takes stain, glue and paint well. It ranks about 50% higher then redwood on the hardness scale.

Aside from the name, the reclaimed old growth douglas fir material we carry, has little in common with the new douglas fir used today. Superior in both look and strength with a dense ring count, reclaimed douglas fir is a versatile building product that can be used uniquely in numerous ways.
